What is a York Grand Rapids?
York was an established American musical-instrument manufacturer based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and its saxophones are much less commonly encountered today than instruments from makers such as Conn, Buescher or Martin.
That makes this an interesting instrument for anyone who enjoys early American saxophones, vintage horn collecting, or simply wants something considerably less ordinary than a modern alto.
It has the character and feel you would expect from an early American saxophone rather than modern-style keywork, so it would particularly suit someone who appreciates vintage instruments.
Included
Sale is for the saxophone and crook/neck as pictured and a Tom and will gig bag.
Stand, harness and mouthpiece not included.
Playing video
If on eBay a playing demonstration is included with the listing so you can hear the actual instrument rather than having to judge it purely from photographs.
Considering that this example has already received a full set of new pads and the associated regulation work, I believe it represents a very affordable way into owning a playable and unusual piece of American saxophone history.
